About these terms
These terms add to the Terms of Service for anyone who offers sessions. You accept them when you apply to become a guide. If the two conflict, these terms apply to your work as a guide.
Who can be a guide
To be a guide you must:
- be 18 or older and able to enter a contract where you live;
- have genuine, firsthand experience of the university, degree, employer, job or path you talk about;
- give us your LinkedIn profile and pass our review; and
- to be paid, have a bank account in a country where we can send payouts. That is currently Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the European Economic Area.
We review every application by hand and may approve, ask for changes or decline it.
Your profile
People book you based on your profile, so it must be accurate:
- Describe your experience truthfully, and be clear about what's current and what's in the past.
- Don't claim roles, employers, schools, qualifications or results you don't have.
- Don't use a university's or employer's name or logo in a way that suggests they endorse you.
- Keep your profile up to date, and pause bookings if your situation changes.
Permissions and confidentiality
Check whether your employer, university, visa or professional rules restrict paid outside activity or talking about your work, and follow them. Never share confidential information, private interview or exam material, or other people's personal details.
You're independent
You offer sessions as an independent person, not as an employee or agent of MASAR. You decide whether to take bookings, when you're available, what to charge and what to say.
Sessions, prices and availability
- You choose session lengths from 15 to 90 minutes and set prices from $5 to $1,000, in US dollars.
- You set your weekly availability, minimum notice, how far ahead people can book, and the break between sessions, and you can block out time off.
- Price changes apply only to new bookings.
Fees
MASAR keeps 10% of each session price. You receive the other 90%. Card processing fees are paid by MASAR from its share.
Payouts
- To be paid, you set up a payout account with Stripe, our payments partner. Stripe verifies your identity and bank details. By doing this you also agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement.
- Your share of a session is sent to your Stripe account 24 hours after the session ends, as long as nobody has reported a problem and there's no open chargeback. Stripe then pays it into your bank on your payout schedule.
- If a customer cancels less than 24 hours before a session, you're still paid for the reserved time. That money is sent on the normal schedule, once the session's scheduled end has passed.
- Payouts are sent in the currency our Stripe account settles in (currently Canadian dollars), and Stripe converts them to your bank's currency if needed. Exchange rates and Stripe's conversion fees may apply.
- If a customer is refunded after you've been paid, your share of the refund is taken back from your Stripe balance.
Cancellations and no-shows
- If you cancel, the customer is refunded in full.
- If you don't join a session, the call records show it and the customer is refunded.
- Cancelling or missing sessions repeatedly means fewer bookings, a pause on new bookings, or removal as a guide.
During sessions
Join on time, focus on the customer's questions and your own experience, and follow the Community Guidelines. If something goes wrong technically, try to reconnect and message the customer.
When a problem is reported, you'll be asked to share your side. Our team decides based on the evidence, including the call records, messages, both people's feedback and the transcript if both of you agreed to one.
Taxes
You are responsible for any tax on your earnings and any registration or licence your local rules require. Stripe may ask you for tax information.
Keeping bookings on MASAR
For 12 months after someone first finds you through MASAR, don't offer or accept payment outside MASAR for sessions like the ones you offer here. Relationships you had before MASAR and unrelated work aren't affected. Sharing contact details needed for a booked session is fine.
Using customers' information
Use a customer's information only to prepare for and hold the booked session. Don't add them to mailing lists, share their details, or contact them for anything unrelated.
Pausing, removal and appeals
We may pause your listing, limit features or remove your guide status for serious or repeated breaches, for safety reasons, or when our payments partner or the law requires it. Except in urgent cases, we'll tell you what the concern is and give you a chance to respond. You can ask us to review a decision through the contact page. Payouts for completed, undisputed sessions are not withheld as a penalty.
If a claim is made because of you
If someone makes a legal claim against MASAR because of something you did in breach of these terms or the law, for example sharing an employer's confidential information or inventing a qualification, you agree to cover MASAR's resulting losses and reasonable costs. This only covers your own conduct, not MASAR's mistakes, and we'll tell you promptly and let you take part in the response.
